I am soil
I once thought I had to be strong, hard, immovable and unchangeable.
I thought I had to be stone.
But I am not stone, I am soil
I am deep and rich and full of life
I teem with possibilities and change
I grow new life and compost old
A torrent of water may make me into a landslide
Or drought may crack my exterior and make me brittle
But when my emotional waters run deep and cause my world to feel unstable,
I can settle
I can transform
This is strength
And when the heat of hurt makes my world feel unchangeable,
I can find the spring waters deep within and water myself
I can trust the rains will come
This is strength.
