Lessons from a 6 Month Old

Here are a few of the things I’ve learned from my six month old niece.

  • Be your own favorite person.

  • Smile when you see yourself in the mirror, even if you're having a bad day.

  • Catch a glimpse of your reflection in the window and be fascinated by all you are and will be.

  • Fall hopelessly in love with yourself. Not just how you look but each and every tiny bit of yourself. From your tasty toes, to your miraculous knees to the sound of your very own voice.

  • Be loud and firm about what it is you want and need.

  • Also accept, without worry of repayment, the support and care of those that love you.

  • Feel your emotions fully. When you are mad, let the mad out. When you are joyous, let the joy show. When you are awed, let the awe reverberate through you.

  • Fart and burp, whenever and wherever. You will always feel better afterwards.

It’s startling to think that I knew all of this once and I’m forever grateful for her reminder to live for you own joys.
